About James Cady
Design History
For over 23 years, my design career has taken me from custom furniture and flooring projects, to developing leather and color for some of the most recognisable brands in the world including Apple, Jeep, Ram, and Nissan.
Images of my furniture have travelled around London on the sides of the iconic taxi cabs and used in design publications.
Leathers I have developed for products have been showcased on the cover of Vogue, Super Bowl half time commercials and captured in Hollywood movies.
Design Overview
Experience
I have always had a passion for design, wondered how things are made, what materials were used and why.
Design began for me at an early age by constantly sketching, building models and prototyping of ideas from shoes to bags to seats. I worked for my family flooring company, and learned the value of preparation needed prior to installing a showpiece floor covering.
After studying Furniture Design for Manufacture and winning a New Designers Award for Innovation, I developed a passion for manufacturing design and my career experience grew in technical roles at Seton and GST, designing leather articles and color for automotive use. I industrialized articles and color for all Apple leather products.
Manufacturing Design: Leather
My role at Apple as Manufacturing Design SME for 9+ years allowed me to develop manufacturing solutions to the highest industry standards for process control and color capability.
Custom Design: Flooring
I have designed numerous residential and commercial flooring projects. Each project involves spatial planning, subfloor preparation, material selection and meticulous installation.
